PARIS – French tourists are the worst in the world, coming across as bad at foreign languages, tight-fisted and arrogant, according to a survey of 4,500 hotel owners across the world.
And my favorite statistic is that 90% of French people never leave the country. Americans who may travel a lot or are thinking about it – please memorize this statistic so when you’re having one of those mind numbing conversations with someone who is French – and trust me if you travel enough you will – about how Americans don’t travel, blah, blah, blah you can recite this survey.
But, you must be warned – there’s a good chance that the rebuttal will be something about a biased US media making things up.

Here’s the show Mrs. M and I got to see. It was excellent.

At the bottom of the 6th (Indians 7, Cubs, 2), the Cubs game was good. We’d gotten to see Wrigley Field and stimulate the economy by buying over priced Cubs apparel. By the end of the 10th, it was one of the best baseball games I’d ever seen. The rally started in the 8th with four runs bringing the Cubbies within 1, and then a Derrek Lee home run in the bottom of the ninth evened the score with the game winning run coming in the bottom of the ninth.
Great game.
Now today, Mrs. M and I head to the Ravinia Festival to see Garrison Keillor and cast perform on Prairie Home Companion. I’ve been a fan since the late nineties when I found myself driving around North Carolina for the Jaycees or back from WV after visiting family. It’s a old time show with performers and sketch comedy.
The Ravinia Festival looks fun. Here’s their write-up:
Since 1904, Ravinia has been Chicago’s “sound of summer,” a place where you can meet up with your friends, have a wonderful time and hear some of the greatest music in the world. We’ve got stars on the stage and stars in the sky, and it’s all within your reach. But there’s more to Ravinia than merely the world’s greatest music. For as many people who walk through Ravinia’s gate each summer, there are just as many ways to enjoy what we call “The Ravinia Experience.”
Time to get ready for our trip to Lake Wobegon.

Mrs. M and I are off to the windy city this weekend for a little R &R. Tomorrow afternoon a Cubs game at Wrigley Field and then on Saturday we get to see Garrison Keillor perform Prairie Home Companion at the Ravinia Festival.
I’ve been a fan of Prairie Home Companion since I was running around North Carolina with the Jaycees.
Time to pack up the computer and get going.
