The Terrible Towel has become the flag of Steeler Nation – ESPN

imageI had some of the best times in my college life running the football to and from pit Pitt.  In fact, my time with APO helped shape my personality and personal objectives.  I never knew the relationship between Dan Torisky and Myron Cope but knowing it makes me more of a Steelers Fan.

Dan always took care of Lambda Omicron chapter of Alpha Phi Omega and probably still does.  This ESPN story is about how the Terrible Towel is a part of Steeler Nation as well as helping  care for those who need the support.

Myron’s love of his children was unsurpassed and he was so excited that he came up with the idea to donate it to the school and leave a legacy for his son," Champ said. "Not only his son, but all his son’s friends and all the people we care for here at the Allegheny Valley School."

Daniel Torisky founded the Autism Society of Pittsburgh, along with Cope, with the $400 in royalties the Terrible Towel earned Cope in its first year.

Passing the Time

The Great Dallas Ice Storm of 2009 has come and gone, with little to show for our 24 hr news casts but a few hundred wrecks in the DFW area.  One of my friends at Infosys last year explained that “Major Weather events” are what the Dallas media use to entertain themselves during the Cowboys off season.  But, they’re not alone.  Most southern cities have trouble with any weather that isn’t 50 degrees and higher.

It’s as if they all study the British Rail handbook on how to be ill prepared.  Design your systems to only run during perfect conditions, have a wadded up napkin with bad weather emergencies and ensure you really don’t have the right tools like Dallas’ de-icer that makes roads slicker when it’s raining and doesn’t work once the roads are frozen.

That’s okay.  I work from home so the 100+ accidents last night night were merely entertaining TV viewing.  Mrs. M doesn’t like it when I cheer the major auto-accidents but to me, it’s one less bubba trying to run me off the road on I-75.  Darwin would be pleased.

Today, the melting begins and ends thanks to mid-forty degree weather today.  Dallas’ two days of winter have now come and gone.

Bring on the tornados.

Happy (Chinese) New Year!

We’re now in the year of the Ox.  From Wikipedia, the Ox is the sign of the prosperity through fortitude and hard work.

Thanks Hugh for the great New Years card.
