You know it’s Halloween when the nice people at Walmart start taking down their Halloween decorations for Christmas. Geez. The toilet paper in the trees isn’t even dry yet and they’re already moving toward Ho-Ho-Ho land.
The phat fat guy and his reindeer could have waited one more day. Or, at least that’s my humble opinion.
Mrs. M and I are ready. We’ve done our candy forecasts (first year, no previous data) and added a couple decorations outside (little pumpkins and a geek friendly ‘welcome to my web site’ thing hanging on our door [picture of a spider]). I love Halloween but decided to take it easy this year so I can see what other neighbors are doing. Judging by the lack of decorations I’m guessing – not much.
Mrs M wants to do some things for Christmas. I’m thinking about going Clark Griswold on the whole thing. The nice part would be if we buy a lot of Christmas decorations, I could use some of them – especially the Santa suite and reindeer – for a Christian holidays’ inspired Halloween theme in 2009. Chainsaw, red suit … counseling for all who knock on our door. It’s the theme I wanted for the old Charlotte Jaycees haunted houses but I kept getting overruled. Well, not in my own house.
Until Mrs. M hears about the idea.
But, at last, that debate will have to wait until 2009. For tonight, it’s handing out candy to little goblins and gools.
Happy Hallow-mas everybody!
boo!
The inaugural Oktoberfest mountain bike race that I’m helping with this weekend is now approaching its third and final day. It’s been a great first year event. The rain that ‘washed off the course’ finally rolled out Saturday afternoon, which dramatically helped the course and the riders. Hills, water, mud, more mud, no friction for the tires … you can see how that could be a problem.
I’m here because once upon a time, I helped organize MTBO sister event the Cowbell Classic Challenge and stayed involved with the organization that runs it. We’re getting ready to go. Our 72hr marathon is now crossing into its final stages.
I’ve finally gotten my blackberry to play well with my laptop for Internet connections. This post, while not terribly informative, is my first post using the new connection.
