Understanding Engineers

I know this email forward has been around for a while, but thanks to my current assignment I have a deeper appreciation for it

Two engineering students were walking across a university campus when one said, “Where did you get such a great bike?”

The second engineer replied, “Well, I was walking along yesterday, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike, threw it to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, “Take what you want.”

The first engineer nodded approvingly and said, “Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn’t have fitted you anyway.”

Thanks Stuart!

Cowbell Challenge

Mrs. M and I spent this weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina helping out with the Cowbell Classic Challenge.  Back in 1999 2000 2001, Connie, myself and a gang of Charlotte Jaycees decided to organize a mountain bike race in Charlotte.  The Cowbell Classic took flight in the spring of 2001 to an, shall we say, auspicious start.  Our group had the tents, the coffee, the kit, the location and even WRFX (The Fox) remoting.  What we didn’t have were many people, but made up for it with widely inaccurate forecasting.

The end of CCI was pretty poor too – frankly the worst hangover of my life and a continuing aversion to mixing Red Stripe beer with bottles of Merlot.  The chapter lost around $5,000 and Cowbell seemed doomed until around year later Taylor shows up with both a fork lift for the Haunted House, some street cred in the mountain biking world combined with some damn good ideas on building a world class mountain biking event.  Seven years and six races later, the Cowbell Challenge is alive and well.

This was my first chance to attend Cowbell since that first 2001 event so it was remarkable to see all that has changed.  Since that time I’ve mostly played along at home via email – either providing advice or just helping proof read things.  Since the two largest headaches for the event have now been shed having to do with location and former partners all seems to be going well.

Mrs M and I were there to help with the small details – registration, taking pictures and just being volunteers.

It was a nice weekend and great to see how far Cowbell has come.

Odometer

Well the old odometer has rolled another year.  It’s good to be getting older – the alternative is a bummer.

For all of you who sent me birthday wishes – thank you!!!
