Shrimp on the Barbie

Finally had the most famous meal of all in Australia – Shrimp on the Barbie. Fresh shrimp (aka prawns) with a little chili, garlic and a lemon grilled to perfection.

Didn’t have a Fosters with the meal but don’t be fooled by Australian’s denial of the drink – it’s prominently displayed in the fridge. :)

Just a quick update to make everyone hungry. Time for a nap, the trip to the beach and the lunch wore me out.

I’m sad and excited at the same time. The end of a great story is getting closer …

Merry Christmas – from the future

It’s now 7 am on December 26th here in Sydney so for everyone still catching up – Merry Christmas!! Hopefully yours is full of sunny skies, temperatures in the 80s and a great lunch. Or, well, I hope no one freezes to the sidewalk on the way to church. :)

This living in the future thing is pretty cool except I can’t think of a good way to utilize all my future knowledge. When my family this morning asked about Christmas, I started rambling about seeing a dolphin on our walk by the beach and a kangaroo-mini (otherwise known as a Joey) in the yard of a neighbor after a Christmas party; then I asked if they were wearing sunblock because the sun was pretty brutal yesterday, at this point in the conversation there’s normally just silence. I think it’s because they are quickly thinking about what they can do with all this future knowledge but Alissa seems to think differently.

Christmas was very enjoyable. Frankly, it moved by too quickly. Months and months of planning, preparing and suffering through TV commercials, news reports and department stores for the perfect present, dinner and activities all for a day that normally lasts around 24 hours. Of course, this year we get another second to contemplate life, the universe and everything; like 2005 hasn’t been long enough.

I am starting to find myself in the ‘post-Christmas’ blues camp more and more each year. Don’t get me wrong, there’s no calendar watching or count-downs to Christmas 2006 happening but post Christmas is a little dull. Wear a Santa suit on the 10th of December and you’re in the festive spirit; wear the same suit on the 26th and you’re a freak.

Maybe we should invent a January holiday to keep the good times rolling. Hell, China’s coming of age, isn’t their New Years in January? Maybe this is a great time to start promoting Chinese New Year or the old Seinfeld ‘Festivus‘ holiday.

We have 57 different country’s represented at school so there’s no reason we can’t have a holiday per week. I just created a link on the Wiki for Holidays so feel free to add any that you would like this website, as well as, the school to celebrate. Add holiday

Have a great Christmas or Boxing Day or ‘Day after Christmas’ or uh, December 26th!

It doesn’t matter; ya’ll have a nice day.
